The Concept of Home šŸ

"Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself."

Iā€™m a day late as I was traveling to see family and was far behind on sleep. Through my solo car rides to and from Washington, IL, I had thoughtful phone conversations with loved ones and listened to the book Siddhartha.

Over the past six months, Iā€™ve become fascinated with inner peace, killing oneā€™s ego, and thinking of home as a state of mind (love, calmness, etc) rather than a physical place. Currently, Iā€™m listening to Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse and a particular quote, among many others, stuck out to me.

"Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself."

-Herman Hesse

Although I appreciate this quote, it does make me feel a bit uncomfortable. I enjoy thinking and spending time in thought, but my mind is not always still and certainly not always a sanctuary for positivity, love, etc. The quote did put some puzzle pieces together for me though.

When we seek inner peace, minimize our egos, and think of home as a place within us versus outside of us - we move closer to the stillness / sanctuary that Hesse is referring to in the book.

If you know someone that would enjoy reading each Monday & Friday, please feel free to share! If not, thatā€™s okay too.
