Nov. 9th - Andrew Bryant Day

Remembering Andrew.

This Saturday, November 9th, is recognized as Andrew Bryant Day by the city of Monticello, IL. Andrew was a dear friend of mine that was born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and passed away in 2011 at the age of 14. The following message will be shared with students at Monticello High School and I thought it’d make sense to share here:

“Despite his battle with Muscular Dystrophy, Andrew approached every day with his signature smile and taught others to persevere through daily challenges. He made a sincere effort to befriend everyone and helped numerous people understand the importance of unity. The legacy Andrew has left behind is a healthy reminder to appreciate each moment, care for those around you, and to pay it forward within our community. Andrew’s love for life and the ability to inspire hope still impacts countless individuals today, including myself.

This year, as November 9th falls on a Saturday, I’d ask all of you to do something unexpected for a friend, call a family member and tell ‘em you love ‘em, or plan a good deed for a stranger. I understand all of these things can feel uncomfortable, but I challenge you to join me in one of these activities.

In addition to Andrew Bryant Day, a Scholarship is presented at the end of each year to a student that is carefully selected by faculty based on their outstanding character, positive impact, resilience, and overall attitude throughout their time at MHS.”

“Be Kind” was Andrew’s favorite phrase and we open a fundraiser each year to spread the message. If you’re interested in ordering “Be Kind” clothing and/or donating to the scholarship, you can do so here:

I always appreciate you reading, but especially today. Thank you.

If you know someone that would enjoy reading each Monday & Friday, please feel free to share! If not, that’s okay too.
